About Tensegrity Modeling Manuals

The modelings are carefully designed to be enough simple by,
1. Any trigonometric calculation are not needed.
2. Any special skills and equipments are not needed.
3. All materials for modeling is not expensive and found in supermarket or DIY shop.

Conclusion
1. The paper reduces gap between the knowledge from text & graphics and the experiences by modeling.
2. Architect can use it as design source book. They can design by modeling by its instruction.
3. The paper improves an existing education tool, "tensegritoy" which can not describe strength tensegrity originally has.

Salon de Printempts Prize (1996, Tokyo National University of fine arts)

Manual A: for quick & strong modeling

For quickly made model by converting icosahedron to tensegrity.
Easy to give high pretension just by sliding struts along tension. Thus turn buckle is not needed .

material
- chopsticks (l=20cm x 30)
- fishing wires (21cm X 30)
- glue for wood
- a nail clipper
- rubber bands (12)
- toothpicks (1 pack)

Manual B: for reproducing same model

Many precise copies can be produced from this jig. The pattern of this jig itself has existed and been known as 3D puzzle.
The jig guides exact place for all tensegrity member and it holds them. Therefore the jig enables you to leave your hands from a model for coffee break at any time.

- fishing wires (21cm X 30)
- rectangular timbers for jig frames (X60)
- bolts and nuts (X60)
- hair pins (X60)
